This species has never been described, has no scientific name, and may already be extinct. There are no photographs of the fox or preserved specimens. The Cozumel fox is isolated on the island of Cozumel, Mexico. It was last sighted in 2001. Recent examination of the bones from 12 adult specimens indicate that the Cozumel Fox has been isolated from mainland populations for 5000-13,000 years.

This species deserves further investagation.
