How To Make Bone Broth For Your Dog

Making Bone Broth for Your Dog: A How-To [Upd. 2 days ago]Hey guys, welcome back to my website, and in today’s article I’m going to show you how to make bone broth for my dogs. So bone broth is a great way to get some nutrition out of bones that are too big for your dogs to eat, like femurs, and it’s also a good little boost for dogs that are eating kibble to get some nutrition out of those bones since they’re not eating them regularly. I also like to keep it on hand for my dogs in case they I’m using raw apple cider vinegar for this batch; I’m making a large batch, so I have about a quarter cup here. You can also use plain vinegar or lemon juice. Finally, you’ll need a crock pot. You can make this on the stove, but you’ll need to simmer it for several days, so I don’t recommend it.

You can also make it in an instant pot if you have one; this will speed up the process. Because bone broth isn’t an exact science, the bones I use vary from batch to batch depending on what I have on hand, but I’ll go ahead and tell you what I’m using for this round. The first thing I have are some sliced up beef femurs I really like to use these especially the ends that have the joint because they’re full of connective tissue that’ll help your bone broth gel up nicely and get really thick so I put those in there and then I fed some of these to the dogs, but the ones I have left over just have some large bone chunks that I didn’t want to feed so I saved them for making little breaths so yeah that’s all that’s going into this batch some other things that I will occasionally add to broth are our chicken feet again those have a lot of connective tissue so they’re very good for the dogs great for joint health and also will help your bone broth thicken up and gel nicely if you use them Making bone broth is a little bit of a stinky process the first day or so it smells very gamy so if you want you can make it outside I can do that because there are reckons around our house that will totally get into it or you can make it in like your garage or something like that but yeah be forewarned it’s very very stinky stuff so yeah this is about it over the next few days I will top off the water as needed but If your broth didn’t gel, don’t worry, there’s nothing wrong with it.

Can dogs have homemade bone broth?

Bone broth can be used as a tasty treat for your dog, a supplement to his meal or even as a frozen treat. Lighter broth, such as homemade chicken broth, is often served to dogs who are experiencing diarrhea or a sensitive stomach.

You can still feed it to your dogs; it’s just a little bit less concentrated.

  • All right, guys, I think that about wraps up this article.
  • If you’re having any problems getting your bone broth to gel, don’t worry.
  • It takes a little bit of trial and error.

I’ve been making this for a while, so I’ve got the process down pretty well.

Some problems you might be having are that you don’t have enough bones in there, that you need less water, that you try to use just enough water to cover up the bones and nothing more, that you let it cook down a little bit that last day of cooking or so, and that you don’t have enough connective tissue and joints in there.

  • Really good job on the article, probably one of the best articles out there, even aside from canine nutrients; you’re direct, articulate, perfect audio capture, and no annoying background music. Really helpful for me to learn for my pup, thank you for sharing how to make bone broth and for doing such a great job on the article!!!

  • Thanks for the tips on how to know when it is done. I have been making bone broth for a while now and I think I have been under cooking it (only 24hrs). Next time you make this, keep the fat once it has cooled!! It is a really good oil to use when you are cooking steak for yourself, the flavour is amazing and the smoke point is really high. I usually remelt the fat and freeze it in silicone ice cube trays to use as needed when i am cooking.

  • Hi thank you for your very informative articles. Could you advise me please, I’m getting an 8 week old puppy, which is currently having partial kibble and partial mom’s milk at the breeder. I don’t know what to start feeding her when I bring her home at 8 weeks? Any suggestions, dont know if a puppy applies to your other articles about raw diet.

  • What I like to do is make my own dog food often I start with a chicken and I cook it in mineral water. When the chicken is finished I keep the water the chicken was cooked in, add back the chicken bones and skin. I also add some beef bones to make the bone broth, I make the bone broth in the normal way but I also add egg shell calcium to the water. I then take the bone broth and freeze most of it in ice cube bags. But I don’t drink the bone broth. When needed I take the ice cube bags out of the freezer 250 ml add 3 leaves of gelatin and gell it in the normal way. Me and my dog share the gelatin that I mix in her food. So we have the benefits of the mineral water with extra calcium bone broth with the extra gelatin.
